What is your style of training and what tools do you use?
Every dog is different, so I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to dog training. Every training plan is tailored to your dog's personality, learning style, behavior, and your goals.
My training combines positive reinforcement with clear communication, structure, and consistency. I use food, toys, play, praise, and other rewards to motivate dogs and help them enjoy the learning process whenever possible.
The truth is, dogs don't need special training tools to learn. Training comes from good timing, clear communication, and consistency. Occasionally, I may recommend a tool if I believe it will help you communicate more clearly with your dog or make handling them safer, but the tool itself isn't what teaches your dog.If I ever recommend a tool, I'll explain why I think it may help, answer any questions you have, and nothing will ever be used without your knowledge and consent.
At the end of the day, the tool isn't what trains your dog, you do. My goal is to help you build a dog who understands what's expected, feels confident, and enjoys working with you. Every lesson is designed to strengthen the relationship between you and your dog through trust, communication, and practical skills that last.
Do you train aggressive dogs?
Yes. I work with many dogs displaying behaviors such as dog aggression, resource guarding, reactivity, and other behavior challenges.
Every case is different, so we'll spend time talking through exactly what's going on, your dog's history, any bite history, and your goals before deciding if we're the right fit for each other.
While I work with many behavior cases, there are some dogs displaying severe human-directed aggression that may be better served by a trainer who offers different services or has a different area of focus. If I believe another trainer would give you and your dog the best chance of success, I'll be honest about that and help point you in the right direction.
My priority is making sure you and your dog get the help that's best suited to your situation.
What is your service area for in-person dog training?
My service area includes the Florida cities of Port Charlotte, North Port, and Punta Gorda.
I have more than one dog, can I train both dogs at once?
Absolutely!
Many families have more than one dog, and I'm happy to work with both of them. Depending on your goals, we'll decide if it makes the most sense to train the dogs together, separately, or a combination of both. Every situation is different, and I'll recommend the approach that will help each dog learn most effectively.
If both dogs are enrolling in training at the same time, I also offer multi-dog pricing.
Where are lessons held?
Our private lessons are usually held in the comfort of your own home so that your dog can learn faster and where they are the most comfortable. However, once your dog is doing well at home we can also meet for lessons out in public so that we can practice their manners out in the real world.
How long are lessons?
Lessons typically range from 60-90 minutes.
Do you guarantee your training?
I guarantee that I'll give you my full effort, honest guidance, and a dog training plan that's tailored to you and your dog. What I can't guarantee is a specific result or timeline, because dog training doesn't happen just during our lessons, it happens through the small interactions you have with your dog every day.
My job is to teach both you and your dog, make training as clear and straightforward as possible, and give you the tools and support to succeed. When everyone is on the same page and follows the plan, most families make excellent progress.
If we ever hit a roadblock, we'll figure it out together. Sometimes that means adjusting the training plan, changing how we're communicating with your dog, or, in rare cases, working alongside your veterinarian if an underlying medical issue could be affecting behavior.
Will I be involved in my dog's training?
Absolutely! No matter which program you choose, my goal is to help you understand your dog just as much as I help your dog understand you.
If you choose private lessons, you'll be involved every step of the way. I'll coach you through the training, answer your questions, and show you how to continue making progress between lessons.
If you choose one of my Homeschool programs, I'll do much of the hands-on foundation work with your dog first, then teach you exactly what your dog has learned and how to maintain and build on those skills at home. It's a great option for busy families or dogs who benefit from extra practice during the workweek if you don' have as much time as you'd like to practice between private lessons.
No matter which program is the best fit for you, you'll leave with the knowledge and confidence to continue your dog's training long after our lessons are over.
What ages of dogs do you train?
I work with dogs of all ages, from young puppies to senior dogs. Every stage of life comes with different challenges, so your training plan will be tailored to your dog's age, personality, and your goals. Whether you're starting with a new puppy or working through behaviors with an adult dog, it's never too early—or too late—to start training.
Do you offer puppy training?
Yes! Puppy training is one of my favorite things to teach because it helps prevent problem behaviors before they become habits. We'll focus on building a strong foundation through socialization, confidence, communication, good manners, potty training, crate training, and the everyday skills that make life with your puppy enjoyable.
Do you offer off-leash training?
Yes! Off-leash training is available for dogs that have built a strong foundation in their obedience skills. Before working off leash, your dog should be reliable on leash and able to respond around everyday distractions. Safety is always my top priority, so we'll progress at a pace that's appropriate for your dog.
Do you offer board & trains?
Not currently. At the moment I offer private lessons and Homeschool programs because they give owners the knowledge and skills needed for long-term success. Dogs don't just need to learn what to do, they need to learn how to work with the people they'll be living with every day.
Do you offer group classes?
At this time, I do not offer traditional group classes. However, I offer group training walks and other opportunities to practice around real-life distractions once your dog has built up a solid foundation of training through my private lessons.
Can you help with leash pulling?
Absolutely! Leash pulling is one of the most common reasons people reach out. I'll teach your dog how to walk politely on a loose leash while also showing you how to communicate clearly so walks become more enjoyable for both of you.
Can you help my dog stop barking?
Yes! Barking is a normal behavior, but excessive barking usually has an underlying reason. We'll identify why your dog is barking, then create a training plan that addresses the cause instead of simply trying to stop the noise.
Can you help with jumping on people?
Yes! Jumping is a common behavior, especially in puppies and dogs who are frustrated. I'll teach your dog an alternative behavior while showing you how to consistently reinforce calm greetings at home and around visitors.
Can you help with separation anxiety?
I can help with many dogs that struggle being left alone, but true separation anxiety is a clinical condition that often requires a specialized treatment plan. During your consultation, we'll talk through your dog's behavior and determine whether training with me is the best fit or if another specialist would better meet your dog's needs.
Can you help with reactivity?
Yes! Reactivity is one of the most common behavior challenges I work with. Every reactive dog is different, so we'll identify what's triggering your dog's behavior and create a step-by-step training plan that improves communication, builds confidence, and helps both of you navigate those situations more successfully.
Can you help if my dog doesn't come when called?
Absolutely! A reliable recall is one of the most valuable skills your dog can learn. We'll build your dog's response gradually, starting in low-distraction environments before practicing around increasing levels of distraction, so your dog learns to choose you even when something exciting is happening nearby.
Can older dogs still be trained?
Absolutely! Dogs are capable of learning throughout their lives. While older dogs may have more established habits than puppies, they're often wonderful students. With the right training plan and consistency, dogs of any age can learn new skills and improve existing behaviors.
